WRITER/ DIRECTOR Q&A

GS: What was the inspiration for your film?

BA: A mother myself, in a loving relationship, I have had a lot of inspiration for this film, thanks to my children.

My husband and I on many occasions have tried to have intimate time together, only to be thwarted by (insert child demand here).

After a few years of being ‘blocked’ or ‘Pipped at the Post’ by these little rays of light, I decided to channel my increasing frustration into writing a Rom Com about the joys of trying to have a sex life amidst the demands of life and raising a family.

GS: When did you conceive the idea for your film and how long did it take before it was realized?

BA: I thought of a funny scene years ago, when the children barge in and the parents are pretending they’re looking for the cat under the bed, while naked, and laughed to myself. But I didn’t develop it beyond that. Until last year in August, I just sat down and wrote the entire script, in a couple of days.

Then it took on a life of its own. I crowd funded money to make it, and I also pitched at a funding competition and was shortlisted for that. I submitted a full proposal after that and was chosen to be funded.

Shot the film at the end of November, finished it in full by the end of February. So actually it all happened quite quickly once I wrote it.

GS: What was the most challenging aspect of working in a short film format?

BA: I really enjoyed working in a short film format.

GS: What was the most challenging aspect of your production?

BA: Just the fact that it was my first time directing, it was all new and I was finding my feet.

GS: Do you have any advice for first-time filmmakers?

BA: Don’t give up. If you have any idea that excites you and you feel pulled to make it.. don’t let obstacles stop you, view them instead as, you’re on the right track.
