FILMMAKER Q&A – Brock Burnett – Director/Executive Producer

GS: What was the inspiration for your film?

BB: The script and story were written by Melissa Doranne with the thought process from a story that was flipped to a psychological thriller with a several twists.

GS: When did you conceive the idea for your film and how long did it take before it was realized?

BB: The idea was conceived and took about a week for Melissa to write.  From start to finishing of principal photography it took us about 2 months.

GS: What was the most challenging aspect of working in a short film format?

BB: The biggest challenge was editing.  When you have twists you have to be able to finesse the editing to keep the Aha moment in tact.

GS: What was the most challenging aspect of your production?

BB: The biggest challenge became our locations. We literally lost both locations the day before the shoot.  Thankfully we had planned back up locations in case we had issues which also affected my budget.  The other challenge was timing.  We shot the movie in two days because our cast, crew and myself had a tight schedules and we couldn’t take the chance of losing the locations again.

GS: Do you have any advice for first-time filmmakers?

BB: My biggest philosophy is one that I carry with me whether I am in front of the camera as an actor or  behind the camera directing:

“A film is not a project, it is a puzzle and everyone is a piece.”– Brock Burnett
