FILMMAKER Q&A – Koen Van Loocke – Director/writer

GS: What was the inspiration for your film?

KV: “Maybe Death is not the worst thing that can happen to you?”

A quote from Plato that was paraphrased by Armondo Linus Acosta when giving a discourse on the Covid pandemic. That got my heart and mind spinning on what it is that really goes on at the moment of your death, regardless of the circumstances… how do you leave, what are your last thoughts, emotions…

GS: When did you conceive the idea for your film and how long did it take before it was realized?

KV: From spark to finish on and off this has been brewing and laying in drawers for over 5 years…

GS: What was the most challenging aspect of working in a short film format?

KV: I actually love the ‘vignette’ quality of the format.

GS: What was the most challenging aspect of your production?

KV: Suspending the actress to hover over the actor. No CGI was used and we did all one)takers. So it was a real chore for her but she delivered fabulously. We got professional help from a rigger for circus and stage.

GS: Do you have any advice for first-time filmmakers?

KV: Dream Big!!
