Synopsis: Rebecca Palmer: Those of us born into girl bodies will almost inevitably experience some form of natal anxiety during our lives. An unwanted baby doll. Periods. Abortion. Birth. Miscarriage. Still birth. Infertility. Postpartum psychosis. Empty nest syndrome. Our relationship to motherhood is as individual as a fingerprint and deeply provocative. It makes animals of us. Motherhood has been the most surreal experience of my life. It crept up on me by accident and reframed my world. The mother in Ghosts is a portal to some amorphous state. Is she in it, through it, beyond it? Is she writing it, living it as we watch her? Every human being trails the ghosts of what might have been behind them and occasionally those phantoms clutch at us, often as we clear a threshold. Ghosts focuses on the underbelly, the turning milk, the dirty foot on a clean floor, the rotten fruit, the malice of a white shirt. The tumultuous, everyday politics of our bodies.
